Introducing Sonam from Jalwa

Introducing Sonam from Jalwa

Most people know that Chandra Masala is the creator behind Bilo, well now Chandra has created a new brand for her skin range called Jalwa and her first release under this brand name is the Sonam skin. These skins are only available on the marketplace for the moment, you can find them here, and I definitely recommend trying them out!

Now I’m one of those people who will wear the same skin and/or brand for months and months. Even though I like to mix up the style of my outfits, skins are a tough one for me because if it’s too different from what I’m used to then it doesn’t feel like “me”. Having said that, taking and editing so many pictures of myself can take it’s toll and there are many days I’ll just feel like “Oh, it’s that face again.”

This Sonam skin would be much too big of a change for me personally to make it my every day skin, but will I mix it up for taking pictures and blogging? Most definitely! I love the tones on these skins, there are other brands in world that I keep trying out but always end up feeling like they have too much red in them or are too desaturated so that they look greyish. In my opinion, Chandra nailed it with the skin tones.

The above picture was obviously edited for the sake of making pretty, since that’s my favourite part of blogging, and I’m wearing layers for freckles etc. But here’s some snaps of the au natural variety so that you can see a couple of tones, it actually has 5 tones but I couldn’t do all of them today because time is short for me on a Friday!

Sonam Tones

The blonde and red eyebrows are quite dark, that won’t be a problem for me personally, I’ve mentioned before that I always like darker brows never mind what colour hair I’m wearing, but I know some people do prefer the fairer look when they’re going for blonde or red. I think that the body could do with a little more work on the texturing but the face seems spot on to me and I wasn’t a fan of the cleavage option, I felt like it needed some more shading or something (idk, I’m not a skin maker but it needed something), then again I can’t remember the last time I wore a cleavage version so that won’t stop me from wearing them.

The skins also have the matching appliers for the SLink mesh hands and feet which are amaaaaazing! I really do like this first release and love the face. The progress Chandra has made in her work is incredible to me, I can’t wait to see more Jalwa releases in the future!

Anyway that’s me done for the week, I’ll be back soooooon,

Amberly Photo Contest - Coral Lacey Entry 02

Just a quickie today, but this is my second entry to the Glam Affair Amberly contest so I thought I’d post it, coz it also features this fab new Marisol hair that Truth released today!

Also I wanted to give some credit to Miss Strawberry Singh whose recent tutorial on adding highlights and shadows with adjustment layers was a huge help for these pictures. If you haven’t seen it already I highly recommend it!

Berry also started the Seven SL Facts meme yesterday, so I thought I’d add that for the hell of it.

1. I struggle to keep my inventory neat. It’s still not organised and my accessories folder is the worst, which is why I tend to reuse the same ones for blog posts, coz they’re the only ones I can find!

2. I have had the same SL “mum” for 6 years. Once she talked me into making a kid avie on an alt, I lasted 2 days and she magically grew up overnight. Not getting in each others faces every day has been the key to our longevity!

3. I don’t like going to clubs in SL unless it’s night time in RL for me, it just doesn’t feel right!

4. I originally joined SL back in 2006 because my RL dad kept reading about SL entrepeuners in the media, (think Anshe Chung) so he told me to look into it. My first job was as a stripper – I don’t think that was what he had in mind. I lasted about 3 weeks.

5. Besides Coral who is my main, I have 16 other avies o.O is that a lot? I think most of them look like noobs still, about 3 are updated and the rest are probably wearing LAQ skins from 2008. I never use them, I think I just like making names up.

6. I RP’d in Gor for 5 years, I read 23 of the books for it over that time so that I had a good feel for the genre. I never tried any other RP in SL because I’m nervous around groups of people I don’t know and also some of the genres have such rich backgrounds I just don’t know if I have the patience to research it all again.

7. I’m very self concious so I hate talking in local chat with groups larger than maybe 4 or 5 people, especially if they are people I don’t know.

That’s it for today, don’t forget only a couple of days left to enter the Amberly comp!

Fanatik Blogger Search

Fanatik Blogger Search - Coral Lacey

Hiiii guys! Hope everyone is doing well this weekend!

I’ve been away in RL for a couple of days and I rushed home and jumped on the PC coz I knew I needed to put a look together and make a pic for the Fanatik blogger search. You can read all the deets on how to enter here. Closing date is tomorrow though so be quick!

Anyway, I put it off right till the last minute since Fanatik regularly appear in one of my favourite monthly events, FaMESHed and I wanted to see what new good things they put out, which were these fab mesh leggings. I probably didn’t need more mesh leggings if I’m honest, I have a lot, BUT…I didn’t have any in camel! It’s always nice to have slightly different variations of things too, so they made their way into my inventory while I got the rest of my outfit together.

I paired the leggings up with a new top and cardigan from Baiastice which are absolutely perfect together. The Aida top is of course just like the Aida dress that was released a few months ago, and the cardigan fits right over the mesh so you don’t have to worry about wearing a bunch of random sizes to try and get your layering even without mesh pieces poking through.

Lelutka put out their latest hair collection while I was away, 3 very vintage and very fabulous styles so I snapped one of those up and decided to wear it in a dark red just to add a bit more colour to the whole look. This Gloria style comes with the hairband included that also has a dainty butterfly attachment, this can be removed with a click or you might choose to recolour it to match your accessories.

Also new is this statement necklace from .Olive. and the chain clutch bag by Lazybones, both of which can be found at the new weekly event SL Fashion Week.

Anyway, that’s me for today. Good luck to everyone who enters the Fanatik search!

TFI Friday!

TFI Friday

I don’t think I’m alone when I say, I love Fridays! This one is no different and as always we got a great selection of cheapies from the Fifty Linden Friday event.

My favourite was this Flash skin from Belleza. There are 3 different make up options to choose from (I’m wearing the teal) all for a mere 50Ls each! I do get excited when we’re treated to skins for discount prices in events, mainly coz I’m pretty tight when it comes to spending out a fortune on fatpacks just to get different make up options, so event skins like Belleza for FLF and Glam Affair’s at Collabor88 are always something I snap up. I did have to change my shape a fair bit to get a good look with this skin, but I don’t mind doing that at all.

Here’s to the weekend!

Little Black Skirt

Little Black Skirt
First of all, I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and a happy new year! I’ve been really busy over the holidays but I finally got around to my first post of 2013!

January has always been the worst month of the year for me, it seems like pay day can never come quick enough. After the huge blow out I generally have in December, January is my frugal time. After the first couple of weeks of sales, it’s also when you start to see new collections arriving in stores so you can begin to build up a spring wardrobe.

Now if you’re budget savvy like I try to be, then you’ll want to pick up some staple items. Staple items are pieces that you can mix and match to get completely different looks from, as well as getting your money’s worth and wearing them often. So for this post I decided to show you a staple item I picked up recently and 3 different ways to wear it.

Fanatik has quickly risen up my list of favourite stores with their releases over the past couple of months and this micro mini is no exception. I bought it at the Frost event a couple of weeks ago but only got around to blogging it now, however I think since I did buy it, I’ve barely taken it off. It’s available in several colours and with the variety of ways you can dress it up or down, fatpacking would not be a hard decision to make. It’s pretty simple in it’s style, but I love the quality of Fanatik’s mesh and textures and it also has a cute little zip detail on the back which gives it that extra bit of realism. The length was important to me too, I have some other mini’s that were just a tiny bit too long for what I wanted and the market is also flooded with ones that basically put your ass cheeks on display. I wanted something in between and this skirt was it.

I’m wearing a few other new(ish) items as well, that were released over Christmas and New Year. A couple of recent hair styles by Truth, the one with the scarf also includes a colour change hud so it’s great to match with many outfits. I have a thing for hair with attachments like that so this is an easy favourite.

The leather jacket from Erratic on the left is very nicely made and comes with both open and closed options. It’s not the kind of thing that is easy to layer with other mesh tops but most mesh jackets aren’t, which is why I still grab layer tops now and then.

House of Fox had a sale for a few days and I’m sorry that I didn’t get to blog this before because I am wearing several of their items that I picked up there while they were reduced. If you want information on sales and things make sure you check out Seraphim SL as they almost always have the latest info on what’s going on where. Anyway, House of Fox, yea, lots of good things.

Finally LaRoo released these fab Liberty boots for FaMESHed, that I’m wearing on the left a few days ago. Lots of colours available and they come in 3 different sizes, I usually wear a M in mesh clothes but the S in the boots fits me just fine. These are definitely my favourite of LaRoo’s releases and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Also I just wanted to point out there there was -very- little editing on these pictures compared to some of my others, apart from smoothing out some angular edges so everything I’m wearing should look the same in world, although always make sure to demo!

Hopefully I’ll be back to more of a regular blogging schedule now but I’m still visiting family and using a different PC so I’m not sure how fab my pics will be till I get home in a month or so. Anyway, I’m so looking forward to seeing what great items will be brought to us for the new season!

Wrapped Up

Wrapped Up

Just a quick lotd post with some items I found as I was searching through my never ending pit of an inventory and trying to make it into something that resembles order (it’s neater now but everything is just in one folder called -To Blog- instead of actually where they’re meant to be).

So I found this jacket that’s from Purple Moon, they released it a few months back and I have no idea why I didn’t get around to blogging it but it’s pretty damn fab and perfect for this season, so here it is now! The skirt I picked up 2 weeks ago maybe? It’s by Baiastice and I got it at TDR, and although I haven’t gone to check most places do put their event items in their main stores after so you can likely get this there.

I’ve got a couple of new gacha pieces on as well, the hair from BCC and the stole from Pesca. I love both of these and definitely need more hair with hats please anyone who reads this!

Oh and Ugg boots yaaaaaaay! I was looking for some of these a couple of weeks ago when I did this post, then today I was surfing some blogs and found these ones from Redgrave over on Sugar Planner’s blog so I had to buy them, stat!

Sorry this is a bit of a quick post but it’s Friiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidaaaaaaaaaay! I’m excited, can you tell?

P.s. WordPress changed something for when you upload pictures and now my sizing is broken or something, so from now on I’ll have to make them way smaller to upload them on here so that they don’t look broken on some of the feeds. If you wanna see them in better quality just click the picture and it’ll take you straight to Flickr. Simple :)

Rock on Monday

Hiiiiii, hope you’re all having a good start to the week. I’ve got so much new stuff in this pic for you today, I had a mini shopping frenzy! This look is perfect for anyone who wants to prolong their weekend and head out to a club on Monday, not that we need to worry about what day of the week it is in SL :D

So I’ll start at the top and work my way down. This new mesh hair from Truth is a perfect modern style, it’s rigged and comes in all the usual colours as well as the roots options, but that’s not all! Oh no, it’s not! Truth now has started to release fades packs! So now you can get that hot, ombre look with their new releases! You know I tend to keep things kind of natural so I didn’t go for one of the coloured fades in this, but this one is called Toast which is a darker brunette at the ends than the rest and I <3 it!

Next the jewellery that I’m wearing. This mesh rock necklace and knuckleduster is from HandVerk and is available at Limited Bizarre. Let me just remind you that Limited Bizarre is opened every other Friday at 12pm SLT and all the items for sale there are LIMITED. So not only are they discounted prices but there are only 100 copies of each item available and once they’re gone, they’re gone. I know personally I try to make time every week to hop over there quick and see it what is around because I’d hate to see something later and not be able to get it.

So on to my clothes! Both the top and skirt are from Emery at the new round of FaMESHed that started today and just like all the latest Emery releases I snapped them up right away. The top is available in black or grey and the skirt has a few different colours to choose from. I first discovered Emery in a brief break from role play a few years ago, (’07 maybe?) and they quickly became one of my top 3 “earth” stores to shop at. I didn’t buy regular clothes for a long time then but since I came back and Emery started to release mesh they have quickly found their way back into my list faves.

Finally these shoes I’m wearing were released on Friday and I absolutely adore them. They’re from Redgrave and are full mesh, including feet. Like most Redgrave recent show releases you can buy them in a pack for 690Ls which includes 12 colour options. This is a fantastic price for mesh feet but I still wish they had kept their 3 colour option which was 300Ls I think? 690 for 12 colours is fantastic, I can’t and won’t argue with that, in some stores you can pay more than that for one colour but personally I just don’t need 12 colours. The other thing about Redgrave shoes is that I find the feet really hard to match to my skin tone. I usually wear the blending layer that comes with the SLink bare feet which makes it seem a bit smoother but something about the seam around the ankle on the Redgrave shoes just never seems right to me. These couple of issues have actually stopped me from buying a couple of the newer Redgrave releases recently, however I loved the style and design of these sandals so much that I couldn’t resist and decided that my little quibbles would just have to be dealt with.

Oh just to add, this little bar scene I set up with an old Art Deco Bar Set from Lisp that was stashed in my inventory. I checked on the marketplace and it’s still for sale in their 10L section.

Blue Hues

I’m coming to the end of the goodies that I picked up at C88 and Culture Shock now (I think) and when I started putting this outfit together today I realised that I’ve been buying a lot of blue and white lately, which I’ve decided must be because I’m enjoying a lot of blue summer skies right now.

So this is the Poetic Romper from Hucci, available at C88 and also the League Daydream necklace. I know both of these have been blogged to death over the last couple of weeks, but they’re pretty and were sitting in my “to blog” folder since I bought them. So here they are again. The clutch bag is a previous release from House of Fox at TDR Blue and fits perfectly with my blue hues for this outfit.

I do have something new to show you though! And that’s the new Nikki sandals from Redgrave. They’re 100% mesh and are available at a fantastic price. You can pick a 3 colour set for 390Ls or a multi colour set for 890Ls, which I think is a great buy for mesh shoes. I will say that I had a bit of an issue trying to match my skin tone with the HUD, but that could’ve just been me because I was fussing with windlight a lot as well. In the end I kind of gave up and did have to do a bit of work on the picture to try and match it better, I still don’t think it’s perfect but there you go, I wasn’t in the mood to spend hours on that! But the shoes themselves are very well made and, in my opinion, a bargain price.

Also still loving the Alessandra hair from Truth, I haven’t taken it off for a few days as you can see!

Here’s to the weekend and some more of those blue summer skies!

When The Wind Changes…

When the wind changes, everything changes and that’s just what has happened to me.

Two months ago I would never have imagined that my SL could change so dramatically and that I’d be enjoying it as much as I am. But it did, and I’m grateful.

So this is a clean slate and a fresh start, if you’ve come over from my old blog, hi and thank you for coming! If you’re reading me for the first time, thank you and welcome! If you’re interested in seeing my old blog it’s still there at http://materialgirlsofsl.wordpress.com/ and all the pictures can still be found on my Flickr.

Now that I’ve bored you with all that, let me talk about this outfit. It’d been a couple of weeks since I last updated my old blog, I got distracted and I missed writing about a bunch of releases, including the latest Mon Tissu and Celoe pieces. So I know I’m a bit late with these but really, these clothes are far too pretty not to mention. Both the top and shorts are the latest mesh from Mon Tissu and I have to admit to buying each in several colours, definitely summer must haves.

Also loving this new Georgina hair from Truth! I decided to go for a lighter brown than I usually wear and I can’t get enough of it!

So that’s going to wrap up my first post in this new blog and I’m looking forward to whichever way the wind decides to take me.
