No Vacancy

I had a little lol moment to myself earlier today when I was working on this pic, just because it’s such a huge contrast compared to the one I made yesterday. And ok, it’s not my normal style but it’s fun to dress up when something like World Goth Fair hits the grid!

The skin I’m wearing is new Jalwa and can be found at the Goth Fair, along with the eyeshadow layer. It comes in the usual tones but also includes a vamp and goth shade (I’m wearing goth) which are just perfect for that dark look. Also includes hands and feet appliers for the SLink attachments!

The top I’m wearing is new from Baiastice and can be found at The Boutique. It comes in lots of different summery colours as well but of course I’m wearing black for this style. It’s a halter neck with ties at the back and I might have to blog it again at some point to show that off because it’s really very striking. The bangles I’m wearing I picked up at Teefy last week for Fifty Linden Friday, but they’re usually still in store now, just a bit higher in price.

The head piece is something I picked up by Glam Affair at The Dressing Room forever ago, seriously about a year ago, but just hadn’t had a chance to wear yet. I do this a lot, buy things when they’re cheap just in case I need it one day and low and behold, today was that day!

I’m still wearing Ikon’s new Vanity eyes, I absolutely love them! The variety in colours that Ikon provides is easily the best on the grid for me, everything from super realistic to fantasy so you’re never at a loss!

Oh and the hair, it’s an old style from Elikatira which I’ve worn a couple of over the last few weeks and lamented about how sad I was that they were closed, but I recently found out that actually the store is still open with all the hairs at the sale price! I have no idea why or how long that’ll be for but if you missed the sale then now is a great chance to grab those hairs!

Isis

Isis

I wore part of this jewellery set yesterday in a post but I love it so much that I thought it deserved a close up too!

It’s called the Isis Solar Magic set, by Maxi Gossamer at C88. The set comes with lots of different length necklaces, so you can mix and match combo’s, for this picture I just decided to wear them all! It includes a matching pair of earrings and you get both the gold and silver versions in the set. Like lots of Maxi jewellery the stones are scripted to colour change, the possibilities are endless!

I’m also wearing Truth’s first mesh clothing, this bustier that you can find at FaMESHed. I’m excited that he’s started to make clothing and hopefully we’ll see more in the future! I topped it off with the new Lelutka Adile hair and switched my skin to Jalwa’s Sonam, for a more exotic look.

Finally my last piece of new is the Vanity eyes from Ikon, they’re so dreamy!

Introducing Sonam from Jalwa

Introducing Sonam from Jalwa

Most people know that Chandra Masala is the creator behind Bilo, well now Chandra has created a new brand for her skin range called Jalwa and her first release under this brand name is the Sonam skin. These skins are only available on the marketplace for the moment, you can find them here, and I definitely recommend trying them out!

Now I’m one of those people who will wear the same skin and/or brand for months and months. Even though I like to mix up the style of my outfits, skins are a tough one for me because if it’s too different from what I’m used to then it doesn’t feel like “me”. Having said that, taking and editing so many pictures of myself can take it’s toll and there are many days I’ll just feel like “Oh, it’s that face again.”

This Sonam skin would be much too big of a change for me personally to make it my every day skin, but will I mix it up for taking pictures and blogging? Most definitely! I love the tones on these skins, there are other brands in world that I keep trying out but always end up feeling like they have too much red in them or are too desaturated so that they look greyish. In my opinion, Chandra nailed it with the skin tones.

The above picture was obviously edited for the sake of making pretty, since that’s my favourite part of blogging, and I’m wearing layers for freckles etc. But here’s some snaps of the au natural variety so that you can see a couple of tones, it actually has 5 tones but I couldn’t do all of them today because time is short for me on a Friday!

Sonam Tones

The blonde and red eyebrows are quite dark, that won’t be a problem for me personally, I’ve mentioned before that I always like darker brows never mind what colour hair I’m wearing, but I know some people do prefer the fairer look when they’re going for blonde or red. I think that the body could do with a little more work on the texturing but the face seems spot on to me and I wasn’t a fan of the cleavage option, I felt like it needed some more shading or something (idk, I’m not a skin maker but it needed something), then again I can’t remember the last time I wore a cleavage version so that won’t stop me from wearing them.

The skins also have the matching appliers for the SLink mesh hands and feet which are amaaaaazing! I really do like this first release and love the face. The progress Chandra has made in her work is incredible to me, I can’t wait to see more Jalwa releases in the future!

Anyway that’s me done for the week, I’ll be back soooooon,

TFI Friday!

TFI Friday

I don’t think I’m alone when I say, I love Fridays! This one is no different and as always we got a great selection of cheapies from the Fifty Linden Friday event.

My favourite was this Flash skin from Belleza. There are 3 different make up options to choose from (I’m wearing the teal) all for a mere 50Ls each! I do get excited when we’re treated to skins for discount prices in events, mainly coz I’m pretty tight when it comes to spending out a fortune on fatpacks just to get different make up options, so event skins like Belleza for FLF and Glam Affair’s at Collabor88 are always something I snap up. I did have to change my shape a fair bit to get a good look with this skin, but I don’t mind doing that at all.

Here’s to the weekend!

Mon Tissu Blogger Search Contest

So last week Mon Tissu announced that they were going to hold a competition to find a new blogger. I’m not gonna lie, it kind of felt like I died a little bit when I saw their announcement and my reaction was OMG! Or more accurately, OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

I don’t really enter competitions in general, not just in SL but in my real life too. I’m sure this everything to do with lack of belief in my abilities, and fear of failure etc etc, I don’t need to see a shrink to figure that out. But this opportunity was more than just a competition, it was a challenge as well. Putting a look together that I loved with Mon Tissu pieces and making a good picture was a challenge and I decided that as long as I was proud of whatever I came up with in the end, that was what mattered. Which is why I’m sharing it here as well!

If you’ve not heard about the Mon Tissu contest you can find information on it here and all my credits in this picture can be found on my entry on Flick here.

Hope you like it and good luck to all who enter!

Shyla

Belleza put a spanner in the works for me yesterday when they released this new skin Shyla. As we know my day to day skin is Jen by League, I wear others from time to time when I’m taking pictures and as much as I liked them, none of them struck me as something I would wear 80% of the time. So I was happy enough to stick with Jen and just recently updated my profile picture and everything with it. Then Shyla arrived.

I’m super fussy about my every day skin and while I love my others that I wear for pics, they just don’t feel like me. But Shyla does. The body is nice and natural like most Belleza skins, not shiny or over shaded, and the face has just the right amount of make up for daily wear. Usually I’ll find that I love a face on a skin, except for the lips, or I love the lips but the rest has too much make up, but this all fits perfectly. The tones are natural, not greyish or dull and I love that you can buy the lipstick layers separately, I only wish that I could get eye shadows the same way! But I can’t have it all I guess.

So right now I’m sorely tempted to start wearing this every day, the only thing that’s stopping me is that I feel like I look sad. I know I have my lips with a slight down turn most of the time, but I think with this skin it’s the eyebrows. They look like sad eyebrows to me. You can’t notice it so much in the picture here because I have a hair with bangs, and generally I do prefer hairstyles like that so I don’t think it’s going to be too much of an issue. Considering how much I love this skin I don’t think that getting used to that slight sad look is going to be a problem, so for now I’ll keep wearing it and see how I feel every day!

Overall this is my favourite release from Belleza ever. So go try it!

Glam Affair – Cassiopea

The new Cassiopea skin from Glam Affair has finally arrived! Some teasers were thrown out over the last few weeks and now it’s here I can honestly say I’m not disappointed.

There was a bit of a hullaballoo over previous Glam Affair skins. Some people said the tones were ashen or the faces didn’t match the skin. I have to say that was exactly how they appeared to me too, until I started fussing with my windlight settings when I was taking pictures and then I managed to find some that worked and evened everything out. But still, I was a bit put off from buying them.

So when Aida Ewing of Glam Affair announced that her new skins were coming with an updated body, I was more than excited. I have to say she has done a great job on these skins. The new tones are very natural and not at all ashen, the face and body textures match perfectly and the body shading is much more natural looking.

Having said that, this is still not going to replace my every day League skin as there are one or two things I am not keen on. I find the eyebrows a little dark and much more of a pencilled on look rather than natural (especially the brown ones, that’s why I went red for this picture) and the blush was a bit too bold for my taste on a lot of the make ups. I do hope that maybe in future the blush can come in seperate layers though – after all Linden Labs finally did something right when they gave us tattoo layers, it’d be a shame not to use them! If that was the case then this would almost certainly be my new every day skin. These things are just personal preference though, the skin itself is very well made and a huge improvement on previous Glam Affair skins.

On a side note, I did have to change my shape to fit the skin and since I won’t be wearing it all the time, most likely just for a few pictures here, I decided that I’d put it for sale on the marketplace under the Penchant label for anyone who is interested.

Overall I do love this skin and hope that the next releases from Glam Affair are just as good (I’m sure they will be) and maybe with some of the make up options available as seperate layers!

P.S. There is very little editing on this picture because I wanted to show the skin and shape as they were in world. Mostly just a bit of liquify on the jaggedy’s and a tiny tweak on the lighting!

Epoque @ Hair Fair

Looky looky, it’s another hair fair release! This time it’s from Epoque which is located on the Water sim, here’s the direct SLURL. I love this classic style and the bangs are a great length, I tend not to be a massive fan of ones that cover my eyes and usually end up modding the hair if it does, but this one’s perfect.

This outfit is also great for anyone who is feeling thrifty after spending all those Ls at Hair Fair.

The skirt and top are from House of Fox which I got last week for 50L Friday. The top is mesh and the skirt has system layer pants with a mesh insert, so it fits nicely. The skin is by Glam Affair, part of their Roza line which they have been selling a few versions of lately at TDR and C88. This one is available at the new round of TDR and is only 70Ls! Also the earrings and ring are from Kunglers at TDR Blue for only 70Ls and there is a necklace to match at the Kunglers main store. TDR Blue changes rounds in few days so make sure you get over there if you want to snag this set for cheap!

I’m not sure if you can see my nails very well in this picture but they are mesh and from Leverocci. I don’t usually wear prim or any kind of nails, but recently I had started looking at some that I might try out. Then I saw these at Leverocci’s anniversary sale for 30Ls and I couldn’t pass them up. The length is nice and natural and they come in a huge array of colours, either plain polish or a french manicure style. I bought several styles and now I don’t take them off, so they’re definitely worth trying out if like me you were unsure of prim/mesh nails.

One Voice Love

I’ve never owned a Curio skin. But before the Curio brand, Gala sold skins just as “Gala”. I checked my inventory today and I have 13 of those Gala skins from back in early ’07, including TWO demos! That really made me laugh, don’t ask me why I have skins and DEMOS from ’07, I honestly couldn’t tell you. I’m clearly much more like this woman than I realised. Especially as I didn’t even delete them after I found them!

Despite the fact that I’ve never owned a Curio skin, I’m still actively supporting this event and while it’s great that so many designers have contributed items with the profits going toward Gala’s legal fees, that is just a bonus. The important part of this whole thing is that so many people have stood up, and worked together and created something that is not only going to help Gala but the community as a whole.

I was talking about the fundraiser to a friend this morning, she said “it’s reminded me why I play Second Life” and she’s right.

I should let you know as well that the One Voice event has been extended to run until the 22nd of July. So don’t worry if you haven’t managed to get access yet, thanks to the generosity of Eku Zhong (who donated the use of the sim as the venue) you now have extra time to get over there and show some love for Curio!
